About Me:
Hello everyone! My name is Mallorie Smith and I am a Junior here at Texas State. I am studying to get my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, getting my certification in ESL grades K-6th. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but I currently am living in San Marcos. I have one older sister who graduated from Texas A&M University. One major fact about me is that I love animals! I have 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 turtles, but only one of my cats lives here with me in San Marcos. His name is Boko, named after the Texas State mascot. I've wanted to become a teacher my entire life, and I am so excited for this class and to get to know everyone! Why Teach?
I have wanted to become a teacher my entire life, but High my experience in High School is what solidified that for me. I took a class that allowed me to work with pre-school students, where I would work with a small group and create lessons and activities to do with them. When I was a junior and senior I took the same class but at a more serious level, where I got to go to a 1st grade classroom four times a week and work as a teacher intern. I fell even more in love with teaching, and how rewarding it is to make a difference in young students' lives. My Aunt has been a teacher for as long as I can remember, and she has taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, middle school, and now high school. Currently, she is the coordinator of a program called "camelot kids" at her High School. This is a program for aspiring teachers where they work as a pre-school throughout the week. My Aunt is the most amazing person I know, and is so dedicated to her job. When I was little I would love going to help her set up her classroom. I have seen the impact that she has made on her students, and she even keeps in contact with students she taught in Kindergarten who are now in college. I want to be just like my Aunt, and impact as many lives as she has.
When I become a teacher, I would like to teach in younger grade levels, such as Kindergarten or 1st grade. Although, after I have taught for a while I would like to eventually open up my own pre-school. I have a passion for teaching early education students because I feel like the first few years of school are crucial to their development, and I would love to positively impact their outlook on learning.
Favorite TIk-Tok Teachers:
~ @itsmoniquesworld is one of my favorite Tik-Tok teachers. She posts videos of her teaching lessons, and one of my favorite videos is when she posted her teaching a lesson over "part, part, whole," where she teaches her kindergarteners addition. She has amazing energy and keeps her students engaged and interested in learning, I also love the technique she used. She told a story using wizards and fairies, which is something that sparks the interest of younger students.
~ @kenziiewenz is another one of my favorite Tik-Tok teachers. She also teaches kindergarten, and she posted several videos when school was only online. It is very difficult to teach through zoom, especially with young students, but she keeps her class super engaged by making it interactive, and keeping a very high energy that the students feed off of. She is definitely an inspiration to me when it comes to how I want to be as an educator.
Wow. Your aunt does sound like an amazing person and teacher. Camelot Kids sounds very intriguing, too. I have taught kinder and first grade for many years and definitely enjoy working with that age group. You are correct. Those early years are so very important.
ReplyDeleteHi Mallorie!
ReplyDeleteI am a lover of animals too! My parents have five dogs, so it gets crazy sometimes. There are three German Short Hair Pointers, one English Pointer, and one Kelpie/Collie Mix. The three German Short Hairs are names Bella, Deuz, and Gunner. The English pointer is Ruby, and the Kelpie/Collie is Su-Z-Q. Teaching has also always been what I want to be. I thought about going into the medical field and doing something in the labor and delivery unit, but I realized that I wanted a regular work schedule and not shift work especially if I have children. I would want to be with them each day and night. That is so cool how you got to make lesson plans and activities for the pre – schoolers! I had a similar class in high school. It was called PALS, and my junior year I was a lunch monitor and a pre -k helper. I took them to their room and waited with them for their teacher.
